Smartys is a thriving pre-school that caters for young children in Dedham and the surrounding area. We offer children the opportunity to learn through play in a stimulating and nurturing environment, helping them prepare for school and make local friends. Smartys is a registered charity and run by a voluntary management committee of representatives from member families.
In March 2012 Smartys was awarded a Good in all aspects of child care provision by Ofsted. You can read the full report here.
Smartys is open every weekday morning during term time. We are located in the Dedham Assembly Rooms and our opening times are:
Monday 9.30 – 12.30pm
Tuesday 9.30 – 1pm with lunch club
Wednesday 9.30 – 12.30pm
Thursday 9.30 – 1pm with lunch club
Friday 9.30 – 12.30pm
Please note lunch club is charged at £2. The funded session ends at 12.30pm and the additional charge is for the half hour of lunch club. Children are required to bring a healthy packed lunch to lunch club.
The Thursday sessions are offered mainly children preparing to start school in the next September intake.
Each session has up to 19 children, aged between two years six months and five years old, who are supervised by the appropriate number of qualified staff. The morning is planned around a range of creative activities, together time (stories, songs and discussion), toys and games and outside play in the garden. A drink and healthy snack are also offered.
At Smartys we encourage the children to learn through free play in a relaxed and informal environment. We aim to prepare each child for a seamless transition into the reception year of their chosen school by following the Early Years Foundation Stage which lasts until the end of the reception year at primary school.
If you would like to register your child, please download the registration form and follow the instructions.
